High quality laboratory tests screen each plasma unit for viruses before plasma is approved for manufacturing. Additionally, samples are tested for presence of antibodies suitable for use in manufacture of immunizations. The CSL Lab is located in Knoxville, Tennessee and employs over 100 staff, a combination of licensed technical, non-technical and support personnel. This testing facility processes millions of samples each year and operates seven days a week.
Viral marker samples: HBsAg (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen), HCV (Hepatitis C Virus Antibody), HIV 1&2 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1& 2 Antibodies)
Hyperimmune/Immunology samples: HAV (Hepatitis A Virus), Tetanus, VZV (chicken pox), Rabies, Measles.
Donor suitability samples: serum protein electrophoresis, syphilis and unexpected blood group antibodies.
Other Laboratory Testing Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) is conducted additionally to identify certain viruses. This technology is more sensitive than traditional enzyme immuno assays and is conducted for HIV, HBC, HCV, HAV and Parvo B-19.
